Brazil Bound !

Some of my friends have asked me to blog about my current preparations for Brazil. I will be attending a 2 week Brazilian vocal workshop and taking some electives as well. Souza Lima in Sao Paulo, one of the international schools connected to Berklee in Boston. I am more than intrigued with Brazilian music and composers, guitar styles, and singers such as Monica Salmaso, Nara Leao, Rosa Passos are among my favorites. The melodies from Europe and the rhythms fr Africa, it's gentle, it's sexy, it's beautiful. I can't get enough!

I am also a huge fan of the nylon string guitar, thus the Brazilian style. When jazz guitarist/instructor Roni Ben-Hur turned me on to bossa nova guitar, I was hooked. I had always prefered finger picking and the nylon strings when accompanying myself or writing. Club owners were quick to tell me there was not enough volume with the nylon. I was playing in the wrong venues. The nylon is intimate, I am an actress singer-songwriter, and the lyrics and the story are my thing.

I continue to study Portuguese and research for my journey, any pointers, advice, stories, leads, musicians in Brazil, Brazilian musicians in FL (I am in FL preparing) or anything else related to Brazilian music and culture are welcomed.

This is the first I have blogged, I am a bit naive, pls excuse and advise.

Tchau !
Shawn
The Ladyship
